I'm going to start writing one book a year instead of one every 2 to 4 years. In order to do that, I'm going to write books the length of STWOM and EBYT.
Just thought I'd mention that.

That sounds wonderful. I'll remind you of my idea for a future book. I think Zack should get rid of Julie. She's a snowman building, football hating fruitloop. I think Zack should find someone else. Let's call her Cindy next time. Cindy loves football. She would be so much fun to write about and read as well don't you think?
Can everyone tell that I'm about be on vacation for two weeks? I'm a tad on the giddy side.

Oh Judith, I think I've just died and gone to heaven!
A book every year? You promise? I don't think I'm going to be able to wipe this grin off my face.
It doesn't have to be right away but can you consider doing another historical? That would make me so happy everyone will think I'm crazy and probably place me in a rubber room. But that's OK - as long as they put me in there with your books - and a new one every year. (my cheeks are hurting already. lol)

I've seen a number of comments about preferring the historicals but for me, although I do enjoy these regency romps, I much prefer the fast paced witty dialogue of NW and STWOM. I think that scene on the patio between Courtney, her Dad, Brother and Sloan is wonderful.
Ive read too many Georgette Hayer books I think! Any one ever read any GH mysteries? They are wonderful as well. Think my favourite is between Why Shoot a Butler and Penhallow.
Oh, and absolutely no criticism intended in this post. To pinch a quote, all my JMs have been read to shreds. Just wanted to put in a word for the contemps.

Lou: I agree with you that is one of my favorite scenes too... how about that scene on the balcony with Cole and Diana, and the following necklace scene (also from RW) and that stairs/ apartement scene between Mac and Sam (STWOM)? No one can do it better than JM!

Well Dee, I think I have found a kindred spirit in you. I have to say I normally skip the raunchy bits (sorry but no matter who the writer is they make me laugh - put it down to my malfunctioning critical faculties) HOWEVER I thought the scene in STWOM was lovely. I didn't skip that one!
Gosh, Ive probably ruined my credibility now! No one will talk to me any more. Just to clarify, its not the writing its just that unless you are directly involved so to speak it is all rather amusing. I do the same in films.
I hope I'm not sent to Coventry for this. That would be too sad.

First let me say that I love Judith's writing!! I may whine about the time between books because I can be a bit impatient when waiting for one of my all time favorite authors to come out with a new book!
As far as length goes ~ Judith's books are NEVER LONG ENOUGH for me!! LOL I always want more more more!! But that is because I just love the way Judith draws us into her heros and heroines. I feel apart of the book and that I am visiting with old and new friends. I love the idea of a book a year but not if it means a change in Judith's writing style. I've been waiting impatiently for 14 years for each new JM release I can continue to wait for Judith to do her magic!

I've always thought the scenes with Sloan and the Maitland family were some of my very best, most witty.
I couldn't agree with you more about love scenes, either. I dread writing them; I abhor writing them; I feel like a voyeur writing them. I put them off until the end of the manuscript.
I've frequently decided the book doesn't need any of them--not even one...and yet, when I add them in, even as very brief, sketchy paragraphs in the working manuscript, I notice an instantaneous, radical improvement in the characters. Put better, no matter how three dimensional they seemed before, they become completely three-dimensional at that point.
Re doing another historical novel--yes, someday. If I'm writing a book a year, I'll be better able to do that too, for marketing/publishing reasons.

Susan --- this is so funny!!!! Lou---I agree with you. I sometimes skip those scenes too. I am a lot more interested in how the characters communicate with each other, their dialogue, in short their interaction together rather than the "juicy parts". For example : (and no criticism here intended at all, it is all my personal taste) I didn't really like that scene with Leigh and Valente when they kiss and make love for the first time. I much prefered the scene where Valente took Leigh to the accident/crime scene in his helicopter and tried to stand by Leigh or the scene where he stands vigil in the hall right after she heard that her husband died.... anyway hope no one is upset about my comments ...

Thanks for letting us know! Normally I have to make myself read s-l-o-w-l-y (and do lots of re-reads) but this means we can look forward to a book a year. Does that mean you'll tour more often?

I've often wondered how an author felt about writing love scenes. Thank you for being so candid. And you're right, sometimes it is like being a voyeur.
Like some of the others here, I am one of those that pretty much skim the "juicy parts," (The mechanics of love making are basically the same anyway. ) But I do love the way you develop relationships - the witty dialogue, the love/hate/frustration/power struggle scenes (I'm reading WML for the first time now - DELICIOUS!), and then seeing how the story plays out. You are a wonderful storyteller.
I'm excited to know you are going to start writing one book a year. A treat for us all.
Take care,
Jo

A little dissapointed about shorter stories But only too happy about more books more often I guess that if I NEED more of the book, then we'll just bug you to death to write an extension or include them in future books.
Your novels are always special JM, I couldn't be more pleased to hear your back to work full time!
Thank You!

This is the best news I've heard all year!!!! I've been looking forward to EBYT forever and its finally getting close to the release date, but now I'm absolutely in heaven. Thank you Judith for this wonderful gift! Now I'll have something to look foward to ever year.

I'm going to be honest and admit that I enjoy reading these scenes and I do think that they are essential to a romance novel. However, I don't enjoy them in every romance I've read. In fact, the only ones that I don't skim are the ones from your books. You have a way of making these scenes very emotional. Like the heroines, I sometime find them so beautiful that I get a little teary. Clayton and Whitney on their wedding night, Alexandra and Jordan, Royce and Jenny....There's always something so sweet in the way they response to each other. It's not just about lust, because we get to know the characters first and they've already developed feelings for each other. So I definitely think you should keep them in. I always look forward to reading your beautiful love scenes. Posts: 58 | From: California | Registered: Oct 2005
