Re your betting book, this one made me laugh, because the hero does not have gray eyes. Any do you know why? Because I KNEW you'd lock onto that instantly and start forming opinions.

Okay, so I bet on amber eyes at White's, but now I'm thinking...he could possibly have Dark Blue Eyes. Oh wait! Green eyes! I bet that's it! Didn't Jason have green eyes?

Well, I am partial to warm amber eyes myself, hehehe.
Hmm, I wonder why that is? Of course, there's nothing wrong with gray/grey eyes. Nothing at all.
I wonder, though, will they be green like Jason's? Or a deep dark brown? Will they be an icy blue or a deep, dark, drown in their depths blue? I wonder. Hmmm.

Could I go with one amber eye and one green eye??? It's so hard to decide, but no matter what color his eyes are, I'm sure he will be W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L!!!

A black-eyed hero? I don't know about that. It sounds beautiful, but it would read like the hero had a shiner. Or two shiners. It's pure symantics mixed with pre-conceived notions.
It's like writing about a hero who is blond. I think blond men are especially attractive, but writing about a blond hero requires constantly re-itterating in a variety of ways that he's also completely masculine. That's because the word "blond" has an intrinscially feminine connotation to it.
And writing is already so hard for me that I falter and pale at the idea of willfully starting out with a bigger handicap than I already have naturally.
