Just one other question please, we have often discussed on the board which is our favourite epilogue in your books. Mine is the one in AH, I daresay you have been asked this many times before, but do you have a favourite?

With the stipulation that I'm going purely from memory, my favorite historical epilogue would be ALMOST HEAVEN's with SOMETHING WONDERFUL in a near tie.

For contemporaries, it would be PARADISE.

Once I started writing epilogues, beginning with SW, I assumed I would always want to have one. However, I chose not to write one for STWOM. Instead, I concluded the book with three brief chapters that are more fun, and more meaningful in this case, than a short epilogue. Once I wrote those chapters, an epilogue would have been anti-climatic and unnecessary. I may switch to this method for the future or I may switch back to epilogues--whichever seems to fit the book itself.

Paradise is my second favourite after AH, and it is a very close thing.

Something else to look forward to, a new format for the endings, roll on February 18th.

Three chapters that are more fun? It sounds similar along the lines of Perfect, where Zack comes to Keaton and has fun with Julie outside of his "movie star" life by going to the carnival and umpiring a softball game. I just adored that section of Perfect. It's rare to find a book where there is a section after hero/heroine reconciliation at the end, or after the last conflict.

Karen,

GMTA

That's what I was thinking when I was reading about STWOM too, and it is my favorite part of PE.

I think having an epilogue is wonderful. I love them. But to have a few chapters at the end that act as an epilogue. Woo-Hoo!

Having an epilogue or chapters tying up a story's loose ends is my favorite part. Or at least the next best thing to having them show up in another book. I just love when the author checks up with characters a few years later and we see how many kids, what they're doing, etc.

Wow, this so interesting. But I love the idea of doing what's right for the book. So basically all options are open -- but it's a no lose situation. Whether it's an epilogue or additional chapters.

And Karen I was thinking the same thing with regard to those chapters in Perfect! It was so wonderful to see them interact and get a glimpse into their lives once they overcame their obstacles. I really enjoyed that part of the book as well.

I'm with Mal, here. I would definitely say my favorite epilogue is AH, closely followed by Paradise.

I think short little chapters are a great idea too. It kind of prolongs the warm fuzzies....

My fav book Once and Always doesn't have one

but sometimes I like having it just end where it's at, like in RW. Then again, I do like closure.

I have a tie for my favorite epilogue. It is between AH and AKOD.

I LOVE epilogues in novels and JM does them so well! I honestly don't know which is my favorite.

Just thought I'd "whip" the board into shape and put Judith's posts front and center!
