Not so nice thoughts going through my head about Harrison Ford at the moment...(for losing this copy I should add...)

Sheesh, Sam. If this is really authentic, why would anyone want to get rid of an autographed copy of JM's book? Let alone Harrison Ford. What is wrong with that man? Didn't anyone ever tell him how valuable this book is?
I'd be really interested to read what JM has to say.

*gasp* I love that man! But is this for real? And why would he get rid of it?

Hmmm. Was Harrison Ford even mentioned in Perfect? I don't think he was. Where are you Cin?

I think he was mentioned either when Julie was teasing Zack about her favorite actors at the cabin or at the end at the wedding reception (or both). Darn, now I'll have to go pick up my book and check it.
There was one signed to Barbra Streisand on Ebay a couple of years ago. I'm betting a PR person or manager for the actors had the books. But JM, if you know Harrison personally, could you please pass along my sincere admiration and phone number?

This worked well--directing your message to me on BB so that I was sure to see it.
About your actual question, let me think back...
As I recall, in the wedding scene at the end of PERFECT, I wrote the scene as if several of Julie's favorite movie stars were actually present at the wedding--Zack had contrived to have them there as a surprise for her. In fact, I included Barbra Streisand in that scene and an earlier one where she has an actual conversation with Zack. I don't remember referring to Harrison Ford specifically, but I do remember using Patrick Swayze, because Julie is dancing with him at the end.
Anyway, as a courtesy for having "borrowed" a movie star's persona for my book, I autographed copies of PERFECT to each of those stars and sent them to my agent who then sent them on the star's agent--again as a courtesy.
I have no way of knowing whether the stars' agents actually sent the books on to their famous clients, or whether they gave them to a secretary or took them home to their own wives. There's one exception to that: I know Barbara Streisand received her copy, and I know she kept it at her New York apartment. How do I know that?
Well, actually, I think someone here--or perhaps someone on another site--sent word to me that a collector of rare or prized books was offering for sale a first edition copy of PERFECT, autographed by me to Barbara Streisand.
When I followed the link, I discovered that the seller had purchased certain books among Barbra Streisand's personal collection in her New York apartment (which she was closing down). The seller was extremely professional and a class act, in some ways.
He not only had a signed certification displayed which attested to the fact that these particular books actually came from Barbra Streisand's collection in her NY apartment, he also had photographs of the individual books and the inscriptions inside the books--if any.
I certainly had no problem recognizing my own handwriting and signature, but I did have a bit of a problem with having a sample of my actual signature prominently displayed on the internet. (In case you're wondering, when there's a "Letter to Readers" in the back of my books, the signature beneath it is never actually mine because its practically an invitation for forgery--on checks, etc., not books. LOL.
Anyway, I e-mailed the seller and asked him to mask or blur the signature, and I explained my concern about having it on display.
He sent me back a prompt, politely worded reply which translated to, "Personal autographs are displayed on everything from baseballs to publicity photos, and when the items are later sold, prospective buyers have a right to see the signatures displayed in advance for themselves. Famous people accept that. So should you. Get over it."
Among the books he was selling from that apartment was one autographed by Truman Copote, as well as several other authors whose names have become "household words." As the seller pointed out, they weren't objecting to having their signatures displayed.
On the one hand, he had a point I couldn't argue with--but then my signature and inscription were so legible, and the others weren't. Posts: 1118 | From: Houston, Texas | Registered: May 2000

Hi Miss Judith...as I had "Perfect" sitting right here next to me, I took a peek...here is a quote...
quote:Standing off to the side with Matt Farrell, he watched Patrick Swayze cut in on Harrison Ford, who'd been dancing with Julie, and he smiled to himself at the memory of her shocked face in the receiving line when Zack began introducing her to nearly all the men she'd mentioned being her favorite movie stars.

You also write Meredith dancing with Kevin Costner a third time...

Andrea, re your request about Harrison Ford--
I'm already the queen of missed opportunity there; he was 2 years ahead of me in high school, and I never even noticed him anywhere. What makes that really remarkable is that he's tall enough that I could have worn heels without towering over him. And in those days, that was my #1 concern when it came to boys.
Until recently, based on what I saw or read in stories about Hillary Clinton, I assumed she must have been two years behind me in the same high school. However, someone on our BB told me that HC actually went to the sister highschool which was being built to handle the student overflow from mine.
Sometimes the news media just can't get anything right. LOL

Great question, Sam. I came upon the copy in my search for Judith's books and was unsure about the authenticity of it. Forgery is such a profitable business (look at how many signed firsts of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and JK Rowling's HP there are being offered for sale).
Even though I think Judith walks on water, I can't blame Harrison Ford for not keeping the book because few men like romance books. And being the big celebrity that he is, he has likely been "borrowed" in countless other books by other authors.

It's okay Jenny, that was just my Aussie humour/cheekiness coming through. I'm one of these book hoarders that I can't bear to get rid of any book unless it's an extra copy of something that I want to addict my friends to.
What makes me wonder is how do celebrities get rid of unwanted items. Do they have a garage sale, put stuff on ebay, give it to charities or do they have that much stuff that they give it away to relatives etc.?
